You can find some videos about the French alphabet in the section 'Vidéos'.
Les voyelles:
Please review the alphabet and alphabet sounds with your child. You can use the ABC poster below to help prompt your child on the beginning sound of a letter, but they should know a word for each sound, if not multiple! (G and J get confused letter wise - they sort of sound backwards from English; W (w comme wagon), X (x comme xylophone) and Y (y comme yogourt ou yoyo) aren't as easy for the students to sound out - though they are able to, sometimes with some help!)
a - a comme avion, acrobat, ami a comme dans papa, famille, banane
e - e comme dans je, me, te, que
é - é comme été, école, éléphant é comme dans bébé, récré
i - i comme igloo, iguane, ici i comme dans ski, lundi, ami
o - o comme orange o comme dans mango, soleil, auto
u - u comme unité, usine, unique u comme dans tu, pupitre, rue
Once your child has a good grasp on the letter and sound, begin to try to help your child put two letters together. Start with easy letter sounds, like B or M. Have them add the sound of the b to the sound of each vowel, to make BA, BE, BÉ, BI, BO, BU, etc..
The following video is a great example and a good watch (maybe even frequent watch!) for you and your child! Don't mind the different French accent or speed of his voice - you'll get it! It's good - and important - for the students to hear various voices and accents!
Try the following:
BA, BE, BÉ, BI, BO, BU DA, DE, DÉ, DI, DO, DU FA, FE, FÉ, FI, FO, FU LA, LE, LÉ, LI, LO, LU MA, ME, MÉ, MI, MO, MU NA, NE, NÉ, NI, NO, NU PA, PE, PÉ, PI, PO, PU RA, RE, RÉ, RI, RO, RU SA, SE, SÉ, SI, SO, SU TA, TE, TÉ, TI, TO, TU VA, VE, VÉ, VI, VO, VU
